Day 1: Warsaw

Arrive in Warsaw and check into your hotel, a 4-star heritage property dating back to 1913.

Warsaw is the capital of Poland and its largest city. Its old historic core is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on account of its beautiful architecture.

In the evening, our company representative meets you and we embark on a walking tour of the old, historic part of Warsaw.

Day 2: Włocławek

We begin the day with an hour-long bus transfer to the village of Zelazowa Wola. The village is famous among lovers of classical music as the birthplace of the pianist and composer, Frederic Chopin. Set in a picturesque landscape of streams winding around hills covered with willows, Zelazowa Wola paints a picture of an idyllic rural Polish setting.

We visit Chopin's house and the museum attached to it. On summer evenings, pianists from around the world hold concerts at this house for audiences. However, we may not have the time for it, as we set out on our cycling adventure soon after our visit.

Striking a northwesterly coast, we follow the Vistula river through a bucolic landscape till we reach Plock. Though little known outside Poland today, this beautiful city on the Vistula was the capital of Poland until the rise of Warsaw in the 13th century.

From Plock, we once again hop on to the shuttle and take a 1-hour transfer to Wloclawek, our destination for the night.

The city is known for its 14th-century Wloclawek Cathedral built in the Gothic style, and featuring beautiful art on its walls and ceiling. It is truly a hidden gem, and we highly recommend paying a visit to the cathedral while in town.

Day 3: Torun

We start cycling in the morning with the Vistula as our companion once again to head to the spa town of Ciechocinek.

Ciechocinek is famous in Poland for its mineral rich springs that have therapeutic properties. Of particular interest are its wooden "graduation towers" that were traditionally used to produce salt. Such towers are only found at a handful of places in Poland and Germany.

After resting for a while here, we ride on towards our destination for the night, Torun.

Torun is a special city in many ways, that is sure to leave you charmed.

For one, it is the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus, who gave us the heliocentric model of the universe, placing the sun, rather than the earth at the centre of the universe, sparking off the Copernican Revolution in astronomy that culminated with Isaac Newton.

Torun also has the largest number of preserved Gothic houses in Poland, several of them dating back to the 16th century. The Tuba Dei, a church bell hanging in the Torun cathedral is the largest medieval bell in Poland, and one of the largest in Europe.

Torun is also famous for its gingerbread, with its gingerbread baking traditions dating back to the 13th century. So make sure that you try some while in town.

Day 4: Grudziądz

At Chelmno, we wrap up the day's biking and hop onto a shuttle to take a 1-hour transfer to Grudziądz, our destination for the night.

Grudziądz is a beautiful town situated on the banks of the Vistula, known especially for its unique Grudziądz Granaries. These fortified granaries date back to the 14th century and are recognized as being among the National Historic Monuments of Poland.

Day 5: Kwidzyn

Today's route is like a lesson through Poland's medieval history with the Vistula as our teacher and companion.

As we pedal through charming cities, we encounter sites steeped in the legacy of the Teutonic Order.

This influential monastic military group left a lasting imprint on the region, evident in the 13th-century buildings and fortifications that line the route.

The highlight of the day is Kwidzyn, home to a remarkable Teutonic castle from the 14th century.

This imposing structure, with its striking red-brick architecture and innovative design, stands as a testament to the medieval craftsmanship and strategic prowess of the Teutonic Knights. The castle, nestled in a picturesque setting, invites exploration of its fascinating history and impressive halls.

It was in Kwidzyn in the February of 1440 AD that the Prussian Confederation was formed by a group of 53 powerful nobles to oppose the power of the Teutonic Knights, thereby leading to the 13 Years War.

Day 6: Malbork

The journey continues along the picturesque Vistula River, leading to the charming town of Malbork, a destination renowned for its historical and cultural significance.

Malbork is home to the iconic Teutonic Order Castle, the largest castle in the world by land area. The castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited landmarks in Poland, drawing over half a million tourists annually.

This medieval fortress is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and a symbol of the Teutonic Knights' power and influence during the Middle Ages. Its grand halls, towering walls, and intricate designs offer a glimpse into the lives of the knights and the history of the region.

Exploring the castle is an unforgettable experience, with its expansive courtyards, fascinating exhibits, and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Malbork is not just a small town—it’s a gateway to Poland’s rich past, blending history, architecture, and culture seamlessly.

Day 7: Gdansk

After breakfast, a short bus transfer takes us to the historic town of Tczew, where today’s cycling adventure begins.

Nestled along the Vistula River, Tczew is renowned for its impressive bridges, including the iconic 19th-century railway bridge, a marvel of engineering and a testament to the region’s industrial heritage.

From here, we set off on a scenic bike ride along the Vistula River’s peaceful banks, taking in the serene landscapes and charming villages that dot the route. The gentle rhythm of the ride offers a perfect balance of relaxation and exploration, as the scenery gradually transitions from lush river valleys to the coastal charm of the Baltic region.

The day culminates in the vibrant city of Gdańsk, where the Vistula meets the Baltic Sea.

Historically, Gdansk was also called Danzig, a Germanized name popular under the rule of the Teutonic Knights in the middle ages.

Known for its beautifully restored Old Town, rich maritime history, and lively atmosphere, Gdańsk offers a perfect ending to a day filled with discovery and natural beauty.

Our hotel for the night is located in a tastefully restored 18th-century building in the old part of Gdansk offering great views of the marina.

We do not sell travel insurance directly, as we believe our customers should have the freedom to choose a policy that best suits their needs. However, we recommend Insured Nomads as a great starting point.

This trip is largely on paved roads.

We advise that you bring your own helmets. We can provide helmets at 15 Euros per helmet.

For minor issues like punctures, the guests are provided with a self-repair kit, which includes tire levers, a spare tube, a patch kit, and a pump, allowing riders to fix the problem themselves. Self-guided riders are expected to be independent in handling these minor problems. While there are some bike shops along the route, they are limited. If you are unsure about how to repair a puncture, we recommend considering a guided or van-supported trip instead.

For major mechanical failures, such as a cable break, the guests can contact the emergency support number provided. The support team will help coordinate a solution, which could include dispatching a local mechanic, suggesting a nearby bicycle shop for repairs, or sending a vehicle to pick up the rider. Please note that all support services will be provided on a chargeable basis, and assistance may take time, so we advise being prepared for potential delays.

We provide 24/7 emergency support by phone for any medical emergencies during the tour. Our team will assist in coordinating medical care, guiding you to the nearest healthcare facility, and ensuring you receive the necessary support. The national emergency system is reliable and effective, and in the event of a serious accident, contacting them is highly recommended. However, due to our distance from certain areas, response times may be longer. We strongly recommend having appropriate travel insurance, and we will do everything we can to ensure your safety and well-being during an emergency.

The fitness level required for each trip is indicated by the "level" of the tour, which in turn is mentioned on each tour page right next to the price and the trip duration.

Easy: The terrain is mostly flat with a few gentle climbs.

Moderate: The terrain is either mostly flat or consists of rolling hills with a few challenging climbs. There could also be a few days with longer riding distances of up to 75 kms (45 miles)

Difficult: The terrain is mostly hilly with strong elevation gains and/or has long days on the bike. Such trips are recommended for intermediate to advanced cyclists.

Please note that we usually bike around 4-5 hours per day irrespective of the level of the trip.

You can exchange currency at the airport itself, or at ATMs in larger cities. Most commercial establishments will accept international credit cards for payments, though its good to carry some local currency with you at all times.
