For us this was our second tour with The Art of Bicycle Trips and we were not disappointed. The Rajasthan experience is very different from the one we so enjoyed last year in Kerala which brought us back again to India for a repeat cycle. The lush green tea and cardomon plantations on the hills around Munna make way for a much harsher landscape but the history, the colourful people, the life in the villages and the amazing palaces and forts along the Rajasthan route make up for this. In short we had a wonderful week and learnt a great deal about the history, politics and culture of India from our extremely well informed guide Poonacha who was really engaging. The standard of the beautiful Heritage hotels that we stayed in was way beyond our expectations. The food was excellent and the people who attended to us friendly and really helpful throughout . We had a marvellous time and heartily recommend the company for making India accessible to those of us who love to travel by bicycle in a way that allows us to feel safe, pampered and informed.
Our favourite city was Hoi An, picturesque and lovely at night. Least liked was the garbage everywhere. Pace and distances cycled were comfortable. Vien took us to meet his sister in a small farming village oneof the days. The ride was challenging but one of the most beautiful of the trip, and spending a lunchtime with his family was truly special. Appreciated that Vien brought us to mostly local restaurants with examples of real Vietnamese food, not just touristy food. The breakfasts at the hotels were excellent.
We had a great time in Kerala, and were impressed by how well organised our trip was. We’ll certainly be in touch next time we cycle in India, and will recommend you to our friends. All the accommodation was good. We especially liked Wildernest at Thekkaddy (and being able to walk to a choice of restaurants), and the Parayil homestay. Summer Sand at Vagamon was a bit basic, but there’s probably not much choice in this area. Finally, our driver Manu was excellent. He was always there to greet us when we arrived at our accommodation, was eager point out interesting sights and most importantly was a skilled and careful driver. Thanks again for a great holiday.
My husband and I took th 12-day Taste of Kerala Bicycle tour. Having taken many other multi day bike tours this one rates at the top of my list. You ride through beautiful tea and spice plantations. The views are vivid green and spectacular. I loved every minute of it. The ride itself is comfortable. The guides take you via back roads so while you are riding with India traffics it is much reduced, the vehicles tend to drive slowly and it was comfortable. Kerala has hills bit as medium level riders we were comfortable. The support was outstanding. Ebin was our guide and was both experienced and personable. We had fun riding and talking to him. He gave realistic expectations of the route and made sure we felt safe. Thanks Ebin for your superb guiding! The accomodations and food was good and the side trips off our bike were worthwhile. We loved the houseboat night. I highly recommend this tour to anyone. I think it is an undiscovered biking area. Enjoy it before it gets discovered.
