KERALA BIKE TOUR

I thought this was a wonderful trip, though at times the cycling could be challenging. It was an excellent way to explore this area and to be able to interact with the local people. The guides were excellent and made the trip very enjoyable.

We wanted to cycle as a couple rather than a group and we had to fit the trip into fewer days than set out on the website. No problem – Pankaj organised it for us. He gave us options on hotels, clear pricing, lots of information about where might suit us. Navigation was easy. We had a driver Inder who would magically appear like the shopkeeper out of the TV show Mr Ben at any junctions where we needed to turn, but most of the time it would just be the two of us cycling along. Cycling through rural villages and farmlands we were constantly waving and saying hello. We had such a great time we booked to go back to India in 2016 2 weeks after we returned home and will seek out Art of Bicycle in Kerala next time.

We had a great time in Kerala, and were impressed by how well organised our trip was. We’ll certainly be in touch next time we cycle in India, and will recommend you to our friends. All the accommodation was good. We especially liked Wildernest at Thekkaddy (and being able to walk to a choice of restaurants), and the Parayil homestay. Summer Sand at Vagamon was a bit basic, but there’s probably not much choice in this area. Finally, our driver Manu was excellent. He was always there to greet us when we arrived at our accommodation, was eager point out interesting sights and most importantly was a skilled and careful driver. Thanks again for a great holiday.

My husband and I took th 12-day Taste of Kerala Bicycle tour. Having taken many other multi day bike tours this one rates at the top of my list. You ride through beautiful tea and spice plantations. The views are vivid green and spectacular. I loved every minute of it. The ride itself is comfortable. The guides take you via back roads so while you are riding with India traffics it is much reduced, the vehicles tend to drive slowly and it was comfortable. Kerala has hills bit as medium level riders we were comfortable. The support was outstanding. Ebin was our guide and was both experienced and personable. We had fun riding and talking to him. He gave realistic expectations of the route and made sure we felt safe. Thanks Ebin for your superb guiding! The accomodations and food was good and the side trips off our bike were worthwhile. We loved the houseboat night. I highly recommend this tour to anyone. I think it is an undiscovered biking area. Enjoy it before it gets discovered.

LAOS BIKE TOUR

I feel great! It was a dream vacation for me. I would do it again (but don’t feel like I need to be pampered quite so much!). I didn’t hold any expectations going into it, just curiosity, but had I held any expectations the trip surely would have surpassed them. I am a little afraid that future tours I may take may not be as delightful, challenging and balanced.

It was a glorious trip, with miles of beautiful scenery, fabulous bright colours, exotic aromas and lots of music. The Art of Bicycle crew looked after all our creature comforts, made sure our bikes were in good nick and made every effort to make sure we had a great trip. We certainly saw a lot more than we would have been able to from a coach and we built up good appetites for the splendid food.

Dao was phenomenal, the best guide I have ever had in all of my travels. He made us feel like family and taught us so much about Laos, the people, cuisine etc. It was a very special trip because of him. Driver mr dan was great too! Thank you Pankaj, we had a fantastic time and appreciate all you did to organize and make the trip special for us. Please keep us posted on any additional trips that you add! Happy new year!

Thank you for helping us explore Rajasthan by bike. It was a great window into a world we would otherwise have been unlikely to see/experience.

Thank you so much for organising our 5 day ‘self guided’ trip from Udaipur to Jodphur. It was such a relaxing way to enjoy the sights of rural India receiving countless waves and greetings along the way We were impressed by the quality of the bikes and the mostly excellent road surfaces making the cycling a pleasure. Our driver followed a short distance behind us and was always there when we needed him (punctures, snacks, directions). We arrived at the hotels most days by 2:30 p.m giving us time to enjoy any near by sites (forts, temples) and/or just relax by the pool enjoying the surroundings. Our only regret was that the trip was too short, so we will be back soon!

We are home and every day remembering things we enjoyed about our bicycle trip. Thanks again for everything you did to make it great for us. As your sign on the office in Udaipur says, it “changes perspective,” and it will stick with us for a lifetime. Rajasthan was so much more (beautiful, lively, crazy, stunning, peaceful, rural, mesmerizing, etc) than we imagined. Definitely “art of the bicycle trip.”

Do not hesitate to trust the team at Art of the Bicycle with your holiday…we have just returned from 10 spectacular days touring the backwaters, the tea gardens, spice plantations and the beaches of this incredible place. Luckily we decided to tour around on a bike and therefore have indulged in platefuls of the most tremendous food without noticeable weight gain. The team at Art of the Bicycle are great company, good fun and certainly go out of their way to make sure you have a holiday to remember. Go for it!

It was a great experience and a wonderful family cycling holiday for us – cycling in Kerala enabled us to feel so much more part of the place than seeing it through the car window! Some of the route was quite challenging in the heat but also rewarding. It was especially great when we arrived at or departed from the overnight stays on bike. I would certainly recommend this to others.

All in all we feel that we had a fantastic trip – cycling is a superiour way to expereience Kerala! Our guides as well as our driver were terrific – very accommodating and informative. There were several highlights but outstanding for us was the kerala backwaters on day 2 and the houseboat on day 8. Well Done!!

Listen, that wasn’t just a great vacation, those were some of the best days of my life. I had no idea it would be so beautiful, so fun and exciting. Those young men (trip leaders) Adi and Arjun are really extraordinary. We are very grateful to you. I can hardly express it.

We were a little hesitant to take the trip as we had a 8 year old, but it was a very good experience for all of us. Our crew was fabulous and made the trip very easy. The organizers of the trip were fantastic and very patient with us while we planned the trip. They have accomdated all our requests. The places we stayed at very unique and hidden treasures to discovers. Our kids enjoyed the trip thoroughly.

Thinking about our great time in India with you and the bike trip as I roll thru my 1000 pics! My anticipation was one of crowds, congestion, busy highways, no personal space and OMG it never happened! From our arrival in New Dehli to our departure in Mumbai we were so engrossed in enjoying the experience, we had no time to notice any of this. Rajasthan has got to be one of the most colorful and intriguing parts of your country. The biking was perfect for us, challenging, but at the same time so varied that I never felt overwhelmed with a distance to accomplish. Visits to the tiny villages opened my eyes to a simpler life style with such contentment. Lodging was certainly an important component for me, after a day on the bike seat, and I was never disappointed. My favorite being the Sadar Lake hunting lodge, and the serene surroundings, a step back in time, but with the class of a NYC hotel. The route was always interesting with some sort of historical treasure along the path, be it a huge 300 year old fort, a busy bazaar, or an over the top palace. My favortie day of all, was thru the mountains, a loop thru various villages, watching the people harvest and plant their crops. An impromptu swim into the most crystal clear pond, Mohkem leading the ranks with an exquisite cannonball, that left us with our sides hurting from laughter. And yes would I come back? How about to Kerala next fall, with 8 of my friends. You are the best and AHHHHH India! BJ

I would thoroughly recommend this trip – it was simply magical! We were a little worried that this was a local company of whom we knew nothing and we have been used to the large global operators in this field. We need not have worried at all. The itinerary was perfect and, with the interludes of visiting tea, rubber and cardomom plantations and spice gardens, we had a perfect mixture of cycling and interesting things to do. The bikes were great and the hotels were a very good choice. The terrain was challenging, as its quite mountainous, but we did not need to get off and push at all, as all the climbs were just steady, slow hills, not steep at all. We got up to over 7,000 feet at one time and the views were simply breathtaking! Our guide, Thomas, was wonderful, with his perfect English, he was both charming and interesting as well as caring and thoughtful. Selvam was much more than just a driver as he was at all times looking after us and keeping his eye on how we were doing, stopping at just the right time to give us rest, fresh water and food, exactly when we needed it. If we tired, and we did sometimes, then he was more than ready and willing to pack up the bikes and take us into the cool interior of the car for a while. All in all it was a really good week and the very best cycling tour we have done anywhere in the world, and that is saying a lot….. as we have done cycling holidays in England, France, Italy, Cuba and Croatia. This one beat them all hands down!

We had a fantastic time on our holiday. Arjun and Dilip made a great team, and Arjun was first rate – he really did make this the ‘trip of a lifetime’ for us.

Based on our experience, I can highly recommend this trip and company. For us, 11 days of cycling in Karnataka will long be remembered as a very special holiday. Other tripadvisor reviews were helpful in giving us the confidence to book with this fairly new company and to decide on cycling and traveling in India. Things couldn’t have worked out better. The information provided prior to travel was clear and helpful. Early November was a beautiful time to visit this area, with constant blue skies and comfortable temperatures. The cities are chaotic but the Art of Bicycle Tours had the right idea – use the van and driver to get to the quiet, scenic country roads, cycle and see the best that India has to offer, then finish the day back in the van to get to the hotel. The accommodation choices were excellent – from very comfortable and luxurious most days, to adequate (best available) in the most remote area. Our guides were fantastic – friendly, knowledgeable, humorous and young at heart – truly happy and proud to share their country with us – more like companions with local knowledge than teachers. They hired other local guides to get the facts right at temples, a wildlife sanctuary and the Mysore Palace – but Poonacha and Sriram added their perspective to those visits as well. The trip was truly all-inclusive with meals, snacks and extras all covered by ABT. The cooler in the van had lots of bottled water for us. The bicycles provided were amazing – new, Scott X50 hybrid bikes with 700C wheels, front suspension, disc brakes and 24 gears. Most roads were paved, occasionally broken pavement and only a few, very short sections of dirt road. The scenery in Karnataka is wonderful – this trip started in the plains near Bangalore with interesting rock outcroppings, then crossing the rice fields and coconut groves and finally over the Western Ghats to the coast. The scenery in the mountains was spectacular – very little traffic takes this route and while we climbed to the highest point in the state, the trip had more downhill than uphill. We got lots of waves and smiles from the locals who were puzzled to see people traveling with a vehicle but choosing to cycle.

The transport vehicle was fantasic. The driver was always near to us while bicycling and always had water and snacks for us. He did a great job. The food was great. The sag food was good. The bicycles were good for the roads we were on. All the accomodations were fantastic. The non-cycling activities were great. I especially liked the kayaking on the Periyar River and the hiking in the Periyar Sanctuary. The afternoon and night on the houseboat on the backwaters was excellent. That was the best way to see the tropical vegetation. Overall I thought the trip was excellent. Pranav was an excellent guide. The driver of the support vechile was always there for us and also very pleasant.

It was by far the best vacation that we have ever been on in India. Every aspect of the trip had been taken care of carefully from the accommodations, to the quality of guides to the bike routes. Soon we will come back for more tours.

We much enjoyed our trip. The itinerary was well chosen and a good balance between bicycling & Tourism. The hotels were well chosen & we appreciated your efforts to find ones that had real Indian flavour to them. Adi helped us appreciate the local cooking and we had a number of memorable meals. Altogether a great experience and we will not hesitate to recommend your trips to friends or to come again ourselves.
