Khurja Plate – 10″

$13

Category: Serveware
  • Description

Description

Light blue base with colourful hand-painted floral jaal or lattice. Made in Khurja where florals are the staple. Makes you feel like spring is in the air and right round the corner.

Story of Craft: Khurja, some 90 kms from New Delhi, is an industrial town in Uttar Pradesh. It is also called the Ceramics City and supplies ceramics based products across the country. The making of the ceramics products is a slow cooking process and thus helps in cooking in everyday life. The raw material includes dry clay powder, multani mitti and dry sand. Khurja pottery history goes back to around the old century when few wounded soldiers (army man) from Timur’s (Mughal emperor) army decided to remain behind. A number of these soldiers become potters and they brought this technique with them.
